Cityscape Prints : “eye of the sight”

I am from Yokohama city, a multi-cultural city with individual architectural characteristics that make it uniquely beautiful in Japan. When I first arrived in Sydney, I fell in love with this beautiful bay-city that so reminded me of my hometown, Yokohama. I just sensed this city could be my new home.

Enjoying a new life in Sydney and most of all the great opportunity to live in such a beautiful country was a very exciting time but I still felt isolated. It didn’t matter that I had a few of my husband’s friends and his family, who welcomed me as their own.

It has been seven years since I immigrated to Australia and my love for this city is undiminished. I will represent the city of Sydney as city-scape Intaglio prints from my initial point of view in the year 2000 when I first arrived. Those city-scape etchings were based on my research drawings, using charcoal (willow) with strong light contrast and composition. Also, representing my previous sense of isolation within these prints I didn’t depict any figures.
